Working with builders, GCs, and owner-builders across the valley

Whether you're a general contractor wiring a production home, a custom builder running point on a one-of-a-kind project, or a homeowner acting as your own GC, RD Electric brings the experience to keep your job on schedule. We've worked alongside most of the major builders in the valley, and we know how to coordinate with framers, plumbers, HVAC, and inspectors so the electrical phase doesn't become the bottleneck.

BuildersProduction & custom

A sub that hits the schedule

Send plans, get an itemized bid. Rough-in when framing's ready, trim when drywall's done, inspection coordinated around your other trades.

Owner-buildersActing as your own GC

We help you sequence it

When to call us in, what has to happen before rough-in, what the inspector will want to see. You get the same crew and pricing a builder gets.

AdditionsShops, ADUs, garages

New construction attached to an old house

A subpanel or service upgrade sized for the addition, tied into the existing system cleanly. See panel upgrades.

What's included in a new home wiring job

Every new home is different, but our scope typically includes:

Service entrance, meter base & main panel

200A standard, 400A available for larger homes and shops.

Complete rough-in

Receptacles, switches, lighting circuits, dedicated appliance circuits.

AFCI & GFCI protection throughout

Everywhere code requires it, on both sides of the river.

Smoke & CO detectors

Interconnected, hardwired with battery backup.

HVAC, water heater & major appliance circuits

Plus bath fan and ventilation wiring.

Exterior outlets, security & landscape lighting

Wired to proper weatherproof circuits, not an extension cord out the garage.

Final trim

Device installation, fixture hanging, panel labeling, and testing.

Walk-through & final inspection

We meet the inspector and hand you a labeled, tested system.

Plan ahead for the things you'll wish you had later

The best time to add an outlet, a circuit, or a smart device is before the drywall goes up. We'll walk every room with you at rough-in and ask the questions most builders forget to ask.

BEFORE
DRYWALL

Adding it now costs a fraction of retrofitting it later

An extra circuit during rough-in is a few feet of wire and a breaker. The same circuit after the walls are closed means fishing, patching, and paint. Ask now.

Future EV charger circuit

A 50–60A run to the garage, even if you don't have an EV yet. See EV charger installation.

Generator inlet & transfer switch

Prep for backup power now so a standby generator is a bolt-on later.

Office & work-from-home circuits

Dedicated circuits with USB outlets where the desk will actually go.

Outdoor receptacles

For holiday lighting, pumps, or a future hot tub, placed where you'll use them.

Whole-house surge protection

At the panel, protecting every circuit in the house from day one.

Structured wiring

Cat6 and coax to TVs, offices, and access points for hardwired internet that doesn't drop.

Smart home prep

Neutrals in every box and wiring for Vantage, Lutron, or other lighting control systems.

Kitchen & closet details

Under-cabinet, toe-kick, and accent lighting, plus bathroom and closet outlets where they're convenient.

New construction electrical questions we get every week

Do you bid from plans?

Yes. Send drawings and specs and we'll return an itemized written estimate. For owner-builders without full plans, we'll talk through the house and give you a number you can build a budget on.

200 amp or 400 amp?

200A is standard and handles most homes. Go to 400A if you're planning a shop, a large all-electric house, an EV or two, or a hot tub plus heat pump. We'll do the load calculation with you at bid time; it's much cheaper to size it right the first time.

When do you need to be on site?

Rough-in happens after framing, roofing, and windows are in and before insulation and drywall, usually alongside plumbing and HVAC rough. Trim-out is after paint, when cabinets are in. We'll give your GC a schedule up front.

Are you licensed on both sides of the river?

Yes. RD Electric is licensed and insured in Idaho and Washington, and we pull permits and pass inspections in both states.

Can you wire the shop or detached garage too?

Yes. A subpanel fed from the main service, sized for whatever you'll run out there, is a routine part of a new build in the valley. Trenching and conduit are included in the bid.

How long does the electrical take on a new home?

Rough-in on a typical single-family home is a few days; trim-out is usually one to two. Larger customs and homes with lighting control or structured wiring take longer, and we schedule it with your GC.
